Cooktop is located at The Whale, a 500,000-square-foot, seven-story building that dates back to 1918.
The former torpedo assembly line later housed the Whale Oil Company’s headquarters in the mid-20th century, hence the building’s current moniker.
The sprawling complex reopened in inhabited by diverse businesses: Cooktop’s eclectic neighbors at The Whale include artist Hunt Slonem (and his collection of 60+ tropical birds, frequently the subjects of his colorful work), who has been in the building since 2015, and Socceroof, a sprawling indoor soccer facility.
Scores of other businesses across industries, including many culinary endeavors, are housed in the adjacent Brooklyn Army Terminal. Cooktop is nestled among varied creative businesses that are collectively bringing new energy and verve to the industrial, quiet streets of Sunset Park’s waterfront.
